“Enhancing migrant integration at local level in Ireland” - Research Report Launch.
“Enhancing migrant integration at local level in Ireland” - Research Report Launch.
In 2022, the Immigrant Council of Ireland published its first Migrant Local Integration Index, which was based on a survey of 31 local authorities in Ireland. The online survey, carried out in 2021 and answered by 25 local authorities, asked about the policies and practices regarding the integration of migrants within each local authority.
However, integration is a “two-way process” and although the survey provides important results, in understanding integration from a local authority perspective, the perspective of migrant communities was not captured in the research.
This new research, funded by the Irish Research Council through its New Foundations 2022 program, carried out by Mary Gilmartin together with collaborators from the Immigrant Council of Ireland has sought to further complete this picture, by exploring how migrants in local areas experience the attitudes and practices of their local authorities, and how this impacts their integration potential.
