Education & Training

The Law Centre delivers lectures and training to many different groups on request, both nationally and internationally.

Immigration law
The Law Centre recently delivered training sessions on Family Unity in EU law (in Brazil), training to anti-trafficking to the Legal Aid Board and members of An Garda Síochána. Our trained staff also contribute to a number of EU-wide conferences on Immigration and Asylum Law and Separated Children.

Childcare professionals
In 2016, the Law Centre organised training sessions on the law relating to migrant children for social workers, aftercare workers, foster carers, guardians ad litem, advocates, teachers and guidance counsellors.

Students
The Immigrant Council delivers lectures on Immigration Law to undergraduate and postgraduate law and social work students in universities, and to trainee solicitors and legal practitioners through the Law Society.

Lawyers
Through the Refugee and Immigration Practitioner Network, together with the Irish Refugee Council, the Immigrant Council coordinates training and upskilling on immigration law for legal practitioners.

Citizens Information Centre Training
As part of the Immigrant Council of Ireland’s training and information service we provide training to Citizens Information Services across the country to ensure staff are up-to-date on important, first instance information for the local migrant population regarding their rights and entitlements.

The Immigrant Council of Ireland provide training across the country to Citizen Information staff and volunteers on all aspects of immigration policy and procedure as well as providing detailed training on particular topics of immigration depending on immigration needs and trends in that area.

  • In 2018 more than 40 training sessions were delivered by the Immigrant Council on immigration, integration, political participation, combating human trafficking and the refugee crisis.
  • During 2018 Immigrant Council staff provided training to Citizens Information Service staff in Dublin, Dundalk, Tralee, Newbridge and Carrick-on-Shannon.
